Challenges We Face

The conservative ideals of individual liberty, free enterprise, constitutionally restrained government, and traditional family-friendly institutions are the essence of our American way of life.  But those ideals have been under assault by the progressive Left and its multi-decade long march through the institutions to transform Western society.

Conservatives know that only by empowering individuals and supporting families can we unleash the true God-given potential in each of us.  This message is not only right, it is a winning message. That is why we fight.

Keeping Texas conservative is crucial.  The Left is working relentlessly to carry Texas in the long haul. Keeping our county Republican is key to Texas: the most populous in Texas, Harris County is central to this fight.

We cannot retreat from Harris County.  But the Democrat victories of 2008 followed years of Democrat inroads and Republican decline.   Republicans surged here and nationwide in the 2010 wave, but Democrats still carried Harris County in the gubernatorial election.  The Republican Party lacks a permanent physical presence in much of the County. Even after the rise of the Tea Party, the opposition has more precinct chairs in place than we do.

The Republican Party has not kept up with changing times and techniques. Top-down communications and organizational paradigms are outmoded and ineffective. The Party has not worked and coordinated effectively with Republican clubs across the county. Superficial efforts to adopt new technologies have little impact if the Party does not also keep pace with changing ways to communicate and organize.

The Party risks letting population trends endanger its future. Harris County's demographics continually evolve; the future will differ from the past. With voting populations increasing in areas not traditionally Republican, the Party has not adapted to the trends.

The Harris County Republican Party’s funding base has shriveled. Public reports reflect financial strain. The Party relies largely on candidates and officeholders to fund the very Party that should be supporting them.

Meanwhile, the opposition works on all levels to wreak fundamental change. They have ramped up organization, funding, and candidate recruitment.

Spin won’t save Harris County. Ten years of the same administration is enough.  It is time for fresh leadership.
